Consultation on Proposals for the Post Office and Village Stores

A public meeting was held on the 1st May regarding the future of the shop in light of the present owners' intention to cease trading. It was attended by around 80 people. The Parish Council reported on the possibility of a community shop taking it over with the help of the Village Retail Services Association (VIRSA). A parishioner suggested a second option, a business consortium of villagers buying the business. The Parish Council agreed to carry out a consultation and a week later every house in the village received a form and a post paid return envelope. Here are the results of the consultation:
People favouring
VIRSA proposal only

122
People favouring
business consortium only

none
People in favour of
either proposal

16
Taking into account those who were in favour of either proposal, 138 are in favour of the VIRSA proposal and 16 in favour of setting up a business consortium.
The consultation also asked people to say how many shares they might be willing to buy if the business consortium were to be set up. The 16 who would support either scheme said they would but a total of 354 shares @ £10 each, which would raise less than 10% of the possible cost.

safety bollards on approach to school

Road Safety for ALL our children
After much consultation with residents these bollards have been installed to discourage a minority of parents from endangering other people's children by driving astride the pavement.

Many parents who have to use a car make use of the walking bus service, reducing congestion outside the school.
The walking bus starts from the Village Hall where there is ample safe parking.
